Biomedical Engineer

About Me

Hi, I’m a biomedical engineer, currently living and working in Adelaide, Australia. I have extensive experience in developing technological solutions, and am passionate about utilising my skills to pursue biomedical innovations that improve the health and wellbeing of others.

My goal is to create practical and relevant real-life solutions that focus on the needs of clients and provide real value.

I have a PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Adelaide and am currently a post-doc at the Discipline of Psychiatry, The University of Adelaide, Australia.

My versatility and adaptability is reflected in my experience and success across multiple sectors; I have significant experience in academia, as well as with various stints at globally leading engineering companies.

These experiences have equipped me with the skills and tools necessary to build innovative and effective solutions to unmet needs.

What I do

Signal Processing
Python MATLAB
Signal Processing
The analysis, modification, and transformation of digital signals such as audio recordings, images, or physiological signals to optimise signal representation, extract meaningful information, and detect patterns.
Statistical Modelling & Artificial Intelligence
Python R
Statistical Modelling & Artificial Intelligence
Creating a mathematical model of observed data using statistical assumptions to draw conclusions and make predictions about the real world. In case of rich and large data, artificial Intelligence methods can help to find generalizable predictive patterns.
Research & Development
Python MATLAB C/C++
Research & Development
Identifying client- or application-specific needs, developing new and innovative tools to fit these needs, and ensuring a workable product.

Experience

Post-Doc - The University of Adelaide
Oct 2021 - present

Currently, Simon is a NHMRC Grant Funded Researcher at the Discipline of Psychiatry, The University of Adelaide, Australia, working on multi-modal risk prediction of early psychosis onset as part of the Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) in PREdiction of Early Mental Disorder and Preventive Treatment (PRE-EMPT).

Key achievements:

  • Aggregation and harmonization of 25 years of research data on individuals who are at ultra-high risk of psychosis
  • Development and validation of statistical models predicting transition to psychosis for improved decision-making in clinical care
  • Implementation of automated extraction and analysis of video and speech features in mental health assessments for longitudinal trending of symptoms and treatment response, and the monitoring for early signs of relapse
